Owen has turned from walking to running EVERYWHERE! This has created many boo boos, almost too many to mention......well except this one.
I dropped Owen off at daycare on Wednesday and it was a beautiful day. Kim had a day planned with all sorts of fun outdoor activities. Around lunchtime I received a call from Kim (this is the first time she ever has needed me during a work day). Owen had just gotten his diaper changed and they were going to head outside, apprently Owen was in such a hurry to join the rest of the kids he ran out of the back room, tripped, and fell head first into the edge of the wall, creating quite a gash in his forehead. He wasn't crying when I called so I really thought it was nothing, but she wanted me to come and look at it. I left work right away to take a look at it and called his pediatrician. The wound kept bleeding and was opened pretty good, so they wanted to see him.
I thought for sure some derma bond ("skin glue") would do the trick, but they suggested sutures (which they no longer do in the clinic)......Thanks to Kristin a wonderfully sweet, thoughtfull and smart nurse......she paged a plastic surgeon who was more than happy to see us in his office right away, which saved us a lengthy ER visit.
By this point we have missed nap time by about an hour which made Owen already cranky. He didn't seem bothered by the wound at all. We got to Dr. Case's procedure room and Owen completely freaked, I think he was having flashbacks of heart monitors and chest x-rays from a couple of months ago. Despite our best efforts to hold Owen down, the nurses had to put him in a "toddler straight jacket." This was pretty traumatizing for both Owen and I. Dr. Case was singing lullabies to Owen as he was stitching away and the nurses were trying to calm him down, they really were great! After it was all done Owen was quite mad still and one of the nurses gave him a treat and he threw it right back in her face.....I guess he has a little bit of a temper ;-)
11 stitches total, 6 internal and 5 external. They are all disolvable, so we don't have to worry about getting them removed. Owen has been a champ through it all. After a couple hours of snuggling with Mommy, he was back to his old self.
It will probably leave a bit of a scar because the wound runs vertical, but because he is so young it won't be that noticeable.
2 hours after we got home....yup the wild man is back!
Still smiling ;-)
Such a brave boy ;-)
Sorry no close ups, they are kind of gross....for someone who might have a weak stomach for that kind of stuff ;-)
