Man, my little man sure is growing up to be a fun little boy. Ethan and I, along with our extended family have really been enjoying watching Owen explore the world and learn new things. Here are some of his favorites right now:
~Dancing! Owen has some new dance moves, he likes to stomp his feet and he moves his shoulders around. So cute! He still prefers rock music, which we think is pretty funny. He also likes to watch American Idol, we fast forward to all the singing and he gets bored with the slow songs, but claps for everyone when they are done.
~Grandparents, Owen LOVES his grandparents. Ethan and I have said from when we were pregnant that our baby was going to be so lucky to have such wonderful grandparents that live so close to him. Owen goes to the Webinger's house after daycare on Wednesday's and we head to the Smith's house frequently to take the dog's for a walk. They are all such a big help to us as well and we appreciate them so much.
~Food, well this isn't a favorite, but he is getting better at trying new things. He likes pears right now.
~Outside, Owen LOVES being outside and we are frustrated with this cooler weather (including icy snow!) Hopefully in the next couple of weeks the weather will begin to warm up again.
~Talking, Owen has now stopped saying some words that he used to say, he does babble different ways now, but we can't really tell what he is trying to say. He has said "up", and we think he is trying to say mommy, but comes out like "May-Me" We aren't sure though. I think he tries to say nellie and lucy which come out like "neye" and "lu". But, who really knows. He does still point to things and says "dis"
~Daylight savings sure did mess with Owen's sleeping schedule. He now is back to crying for awhile before he falls asleep....which is no fun, It breaks my heart to see his sad face, but it only lasts for a few minutes and then he is asleep or happily watching his fishy's in his crib.
Sorry, no pictures, I will try to upload some tonight, but this Mommy has a cold and I am trying to get some rest to get better before the week starts!

Chicken Pox?!
After enjoying about a week of no illnesses.....well Daddy had a cold, but the little man was feeling better. We had a blast taking walks outside and watching Owen explore the world. The weather was beautiful last week and on Saturday.
9 days ago we had noticed that Owen looked like he was getting some diaper rash, so we got out the "Butt Paste," which usually clears things up in just a day or so. However this "rash" looked a little different and so we talked with some of his nurses and we decided to treat it for a fungal issue for a few days and see how it goes. Over the weekend the "rash" seemed to get worse and after talking with the 2 more times it wasn't anything emergent because he was in such a good mood and didn't seemed bothered by it at all, so if it didn't go away by Monday we should bring him in.
Monday comes and so I take my little blotchy boy to the doctor and he took one look at it and said, "Well it sure looks like Chicken Pox"......I was sure shocked....the bumps never got worse in any area, but they spread away from his midsection which I guess is classic Chicken Pox.....he also noticed his ear was very red and looked infected....really? This happy, cheesey, fun little boy has all this going on and has been so pleasant. Apparently when children have been vaccinated for Chicken pox they don't have as many symptoms as unvaccintaed children. He also said that the virus that appears towards the end of winter/beginning of Spring is a very strong virus and historically has made children very sick. Also since his spots showed up 9 days ago, we are at the end of the contagious point. Yeah!
Well, Owen continues to be his happy self. I'll have to upload some pictures of his pox.

Mommy's Weekend Away
I went away for the weekend with some of my favorite girlfriends. We headed to Chicago to visit our friend Emily and enjoy some St. Patrick's weekend celebrations, shopping, and loads of giggles. I feel like I spent the weekend at an abdonmial workout bootcamp. I can't wait for the next time we get together. I just need atleast a month to recover ;-)
Daddy spent his first weekend alone with Owen....although he was exhausted when I got home, he did a fantastic job. Owen gave Daddy a bit of a hard time, but cheered up by Sunday. I missed my guys, but it was great to catch up with the ladies.

Mom vs. Owen
Yep, it has begun!
Mommy vs. Owen
As I have said before Owen is a terrible eater. His diet has consisted of milk, water, cheerios, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, crackers, applesauce, and the occasional eat off mom and dad's plate, which always surprises us when he actually swallows it. He continues to have the strong gag reflex. Daddy has gotten really good at sweeping the unwanted food out of Owen's mouth which has cut down on the puke clean ups at home, however he had his first puke incident at daycare yesterday.
When I was pregnant I thought about all the foods my child would eat. I would buy organic, make my own baby food and later make all this fantastically nutritious meals that my child would love. Well, that didn't happen. From the start Owen really didn't like food at all. He ate his cereal and didn't mind fruit. I made tons of baby food to try and he hated it all. He would eat one certain kind of pre-packaged baby food which was an organic farmer's market vegetable blend with brown rice. I attempted to recreate the taste of that food....and I failed.
Fast forward to this year. I read a book called the "Sneaky Chef" which has all these child friendly recipes where you "hide"vegetable puree in. It has changed our lives. Owen loves the recipes and is eating so much better! Tonight was the first night we got some great shots of Owen eating with his face all messy....because he rarely will actually put food in his mouth, unless it is 5 teddy grahams at a time! We continue to offer vegetables, but he mostly pokes at them. You can also increase the amount of puree you add to the food to help them adjust to vegetable flavors.
If you are reading this and have a picky eater....it is great! It takes a little bit of planning and extra prep time on the weekend, but not bad at all. I freeze the purees and just pop them out when I need them.
Here are some pics of my "good" eater....and some just plain cute ones:

Welcome to the World Lauren Webinger!
Owen has a new cousin!!!!
We are thrilled to have a niece, and she is such a cutie.
She surprised her parents and arrived early. She is small (3 pounds 8 ounces), but seems to be doing very well.
Congrats Luke, Paula, and big brother Noah!
We were talking to Owen over the weekend about his new cousin. We were trying to get him to say "baby" and he actually was giggling and we think we heard baby. So cute!
Sorry, no pictures, this is post 2 with no pictures in it, I am having issues uploading right now.....maybe later!

Sick toddler
Man i have been slow on the posting lately...better late than never I guess! February was not a healthy month for us. The beginning we were dealing with a stomach bug, now Ethan had a cold and Owen had Roseola.
Yep, Roseola...when we found out what it was I thought to myself, "do kids really get this still."
2 weeks ago, Daddy stayed home with Owen on Friday after he woke up with a fever of 103. No biggy, we gave him some tylenol which seemed to help and he slept a lot. When I got home from work he was napping and I checked on him and he seemed fine. About a half hour later he woke up and we noticed his fingers and lips seemed blue. As we were checking him out we noticed the skin on his legs looked a little funny and he began to shiver. I am not a parent that likes to run kids to the doctor with every sniffle, however I knew he need to be seen. So we headed to Urgent Care (since it was after clinic hours) and waited....
Owen actually seemed to perk up when we got there, but we decided to have him seen anyways. In triage they were checking his oxygen levels and the monitored started alarming....his heart rate was in the 170's-180's (normal for his age is 90-150 bpm), so they brought us back right away (cue the mommy fears!) and sure enough that is what his heart rates were. Before we left we had a chest x-ray and Owen was looked over, all was fine and we were going to follow-up on Tuesday with our pediatrician.
Over the weekend I noticed the blue fingers and lips, but he was breathing fine. And when Owen woke up Tuesday morning he was covered in a rash....hence the Roseola diagnosis. It seems Owen is ultra sensitive to fevers and his heart rate elevates to the point that his capillaries in his extremities clamp down causing the blue appearance. He will probably grow out of it.
We also noticed some swollen gums....more teeth, and he had a bit of a runny nose. So, my poor guy had a lot going on in one weekend. Thankfully Thursday he was feeling much better and my happy boy is back!
